What I Paint
-
Pet portraits (dogs, cats, birds, and more)
-
Favourite places or landscapes
-
Meaningful objects or memories
I paint in a realistic style, using reference photos to guide each piece. I’m the kind of artist who paints what I see. While I can make small adjustments—like removing a collar or another item—I rely heavily on the reference photo to achieve realism.
Choosing a clear, well-lit reference photo is essential for capturing detail and personality. See below for tips on selecting the best photo.
How the Process Works
-
Send me a high-quality reference photo (or a few to choose from) - See “How to Choose a Good Reference Photo” below for tips and copyright info.
-
We discuss canvas size, background, and timing
-
A 20% deposit confirms your booking and covers materials
-
I’ll begin painting once your spot in the queue opens
Please note: Paintings usually take 2–3 months to complete, depending on my current schedule it might even be longer. Once finished, oil paintings need a few weeks to dry before they’re safe to ship. If you have a special date in mind, please let me know early so I can advise on timing.
Commissions Checklist
Choosing Your Reference Photo
-
Aim for clear, high‑resolution images so I can capture your pet’s details.
-
Get down to eye level for a natural perspective.
-
If photos are tricky, a short high‑quality video can work—we can select a still frame together.
-
For multiple pets, consistent lighting and compatible poses are important. I’m happy to review your images and advise.
Planning Your Painting
-
Wall Size: Think about where the painting will hang. The canvas should feel balanced in the space.
-
Wall Colour: Warm or cool tones can influence background choices. (If it’s a gift, don’t worry—this isn’t essential.)
Reminder of Timeline
-
Please allow 2–3 months for painting, plus a few weeks for drying before shipping.
-
Delivery time depends on your location and courier.
Caring for Your Artwork
-
Oils are touch‑dry within weeks but take 1–2 years to fully cure.
-
Ensure airflow around the painting; avoid direct sunlight or leaning the painted surface against objects.
-
I supply paintings unvarnished. Varnishing is optional after 1–2 years for extra protection.
